BAMBOO

Before we begin, let’s clear something up. Bamboo is not a tree! It is the fast growing grass on the planet and it is a perfect replacement for trees because it has an extremely short growth cycle and a very high carbon dioxide exchange rate. There are over 1200 documented species of bamboo. A mature grove of bamboo sends up new shoots every year and these new shoots reach their full size in just a couple of months. Some can even grow up to 47 inches within 24 hours and can reach over 100 feet in height within 60 days. This short growth cycle makes it a perfect replacement for our slow growing forests that are being steadily cut back. It also provides erosion control when other plants are washed away.

A FEW INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT BAMBOO

Bamboo is a great plant for individuals concerned with a green environment. There are some 1500 different species that are native to every continent except Europe.
Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on this planet. It has been recorded growing at an amazing 47.6 inches in a 24 hour period.
Bamboo is a vaible replacement for wood. It can be harvested in 3-5 years versus 10-20 for most softwoods. It can out yield pine 6 to 1 in biomass production.
It is also one of the strongest building materials with a tensile strength of 28,000 psi. To help give you an idea how much this is, mild steel measures 23,000 psi.
Bamboo is a crucial element in the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. A grove of bamboo releases 35% more oxygen than an equivalent stand of trees. Because of this, planting bamboo is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint and help fight global warming.
It is a great soil conservation tool. It greatly reduces erosion with a sum of stem flow rate and canopy intercept of 24%. This dramatically reduces rain run-off, preventing massive soil erosion and making it very earth friendly.
Bamboo can also tolerate extreme conditions that most plants cannot. It was actually the first plant to re-green after the atomic blast in Hiroshima in 1945.
Bamboo can be eaten (new shoots), made into fiber for clothing, it can be used in concrete reinforcement, it can provide great livestock feed with the foliage being up to 22% protein, it can be machined into numerous forms of lumber, etc. It might be easier to compile a list of what bamboo cannot be used for than what it is used for.

The movement of the Humanization of Pets has gained a ton of attention in the last few years and we would like to think that our Bambu Pet Hammock is one of the very first pieces of pet furniture. Our designs are different from the majority of “pet furniture” that is presently available on the market. The majority of are pet size replications of human beds and sofas, or they are just the plain old cushion plopped on the floor adding no interior design value to the customer’s home. I am the designer and founder of Pet Lounge Studios and am a professional furniture designer with a degree from the Savannah College of Art & Design. With that said, I approach all of my designs from the perspective of a furniture designer first and foremost.

Our Kickstarter project is a way for us to create brand awareness and value on an international level. The goal of our project is to bring our products to life by interacting with our backers and inviting them to participate in the entire manufacturing process with regular updates and the creation of an exclusive manufacturing video documentary. This will start by bringing them deep into the bamboo forests of mainland China to harvest the raw bamboo for the production of their products! We will also explain the “green” aspect of bamboo and the story behind our brand. Our hope are that this will go viral on the internet and create the demand for our unique products.

The concept behind the BAMBU COLLECTION

In designing the Bambu Lounger we wanted to solve the problem that many pet owners are faced with of how to seamlessly, and comfortably, incorporate their pets into the design of their interiors . You always have the option to purchase a cushion filled with a generic material that has no other benefits than to keep your pet off your furniture or you can look for a solution that benefits your pets health as well as complimenting your homes interior. With the Bambu Lounger you have will have both.

The design of the Bambu Diner came as the perfect solution to compliment the Lounger and continue with the overall interior decor. In the past your only option was a couple of bowls placed on a mat that you would push into a hard to see area when guests would visit, but not anymore.

Inspiration:
The concept behind the BAMBU COLLECTION came from my studies of the famous Danish furniture designers of the 1930’s. Designers such as Bruno Mathsson were very successful by experimenting with different techniques and pushing the limits of the materials they used. With the invention of bentwood and the incorporation of other materials they were able to create simple yet timeless designs.

Inspiration was drawn directly from this Danish era of furniture design and the result was our Bambu Collection. Our philosophy behind the Collection's design was much like theirs. We wanted to showcase the natural beauty of the materials while using simplistic lines and intricate framework. The use of stretched canvas across the Lounger's seat creates an ultra light mattress support system. This innovative technique was invented and widely used by Danish designers. To ensure a comfortable sleeping surface we use shredded memory foam, which has numerous health benefits that you can find on our eco-materials section of our website. With wide, uninterrupted sections of Bamboo, the Bambu Diner stands behind the same philosophy.
